Teen charged over aggravated robbery

Police have arrested a 16-year-old youth for the aggravated armed robbery of a Hamilton superette this week.

The store in suburban Frankton was robbed on Tuesday evening.

Detective Sergeant Neville Ross, of Hamilton CIB, said the youth was arrested after police searched several properties in the suburbs of Frankton and Dinsdale yesterday morning.

As well as being charged with the aggravated robbery the youth also faced 11 burglary charges.

"These offences were committed principally over the previous two months in the wider Dinsdale area and we'd like to thank all the members of the public who assisted us in identifying who was responsible."

The teenager has been remanded in secure care to reappear in Hamilton Youth Court next week.
