Five teenagers have been arrested following a violent home invasion in south Auckland early this morning.
Police said a residential Papakura address was burgled about 1.30am by a group armed with a firearm and knives.
They allegedly assaulted some of the house's occupants and threatened others before leaving with electrical items.
One occupant required medical treatment as a result of being assaulted.
Police already patrolling the area saw their vehicle leaving the area and stop a short distance away.
Stolen property was found in the car and other property was found along the route it travelled.
The firearm, described as a long weapon, had not been recovered and may have been thrown from the car as it left the scene.
Anyone who found it on the roadside was urged to contact police.
The five alleged offenders, aged between 15 and 19, have been charged with aggravated burglary to appear in Papakura District Court next week.
