Three hurt in crash near Geraldine

Three people were injured in a three-car crash near Geraldine this morning.

Senior Sergeant Richard Chambers said the crash occurred on the Geraldine-Fairlie highway (SH79) shortly before 10am.

It was initially reported that one person had been seriously hurt, but in an updated statement this afternoon police said three people were injured and taken to Timaru Hospital.

A helicopter was initially called, but was stood down.

Two of the cars have been towed from the scene; one remains and will be collected later on.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area as both lanes are blocked.
