A school bus and a car have collided at Welcome Bay in the Bay of Plenty.
The crash happened about 7.50am near the intersection of Welcome Bay Rd and Esmeralda St.
Three people were injured in the crash, and would be taken to Tauranga Hospital, St John ambulance said.
Their injuries are said to be moderate.
All three are believed to have been travelling in the car at the time of the collision.
The bus is thought to have been empty, except for the driver, who was not injured.
A witness who lives nearby said the area of Welcome Bay Rd close to Esmeralda Drive was bad for sunstrike in the morning and the car appeared to have hit the right rear end of the bus.
Traffic was down to one lane and badly backed up with no diversions in place yet, he said.
