Toddler still in critical condition

Four weeks after suffering serious burns in a car fire, toddler Dukie King remains in a critical condition.

Dukie, 2, was listed as critically unstable in the National Burns Unit at Auckland's Middlemore Hospital two weeks ago and a spokeswoman said today his condition had not changed.

Dukie was pulled from the burning vehicle by his father in the small town of Mohaka, 33km southwest of Wairoa, about 2pm on Friday, August 13.

A neighbour said the car had been in the family's driveway when it caught fire.

The boy was flown to Middlemore Hospital's burns treatment unit with burns to 55 per cent of his body.
