Tonight's $5 million Lotto draw won't be televised tonight due to the big fire at SkyCity Convention Centre in Auckland, TVNZ says.

The draw, about 8pm, will still go ahead, but take place at Lotto's offices in the suburb of Newmarket.

TVNZ's building in Victoria St in the CBD was evacuated this morning due to smoke from huge fire that began yesterday afternoon.

The Breakfast show was broadcast live from the streets and from a backup studio.

The evacuation also affected news broadcasts throughout the day, a TVNZ spokesperson said.

A five-minute 1 News at Midday bulletin and 7pm's Seven Sharp are being broadcast from the backup studio.

The 1 News at Six bulletin was produced from Wellington.

Te Karere and 1 News Tonight would not screen today.

"TVNZ's building is still operational and has not been damaged by the fire. However, there are large volumes of smoke in the area and road closures," the spokesperson said.
