Two Wairarapa men were seriously injured this morning when a 4WD they were in rolled 20-metres down a bank in Wairarapa.

Wellington Free Ambulance spokesman Chris Matthews said an emergency call was received around 5.30am which was believed to have come from a local farmer.

Mr Matthews said a four-wheel-drive type vehicle was found down a bank on Waihakeke Road in Carterton.

One man was trapped inside the vehicle and another had managed to get out and was walking around.

Both men were in a serious condition, he said.

The trapped man was freed and transported to Wellington Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
