New Zealand-born country singer Keith Urban is giving emergency workers free tickets to his New Zealand concert on Saturday in recognition of their work after a 7.8-magnitude quake struck the country last month, killing two people.

Urban said he wanted to show his appreciation to first responders for their tireless work since the earthquake.

"These courageous men and women answer the call without hesitation and represent the best of the human spirit," he said.

"I'm incredibly appreciative of not only what they did to protect everyone affected by the Kaikoura quake, but of what they do each and everyday."

Dozens of emergency services workers would be given free tickets to the show, which is part of Urban's ripCORD World Tour, according to a news release from Wellington's Westpac Stadium, where Urban is to perform on Saturday night.

It will be Urban's only show in New Zealand.
