Police say a three-year-old boy found wandering in Christchurch this morning has been identified and his mother is being brought to the central police station.
The boy was found wandering in Stanmore Road near the New World supermarket about 6.10am.
Inspector John Doherty said the circumstances surrounding the boy wandering off were yet to be clarified.
