Wanted man arrested at airport

A 38-year-old man wanted by police for alleged firearm-related offences was arrested at Wellington Airport last night.

The man had been wanted by police since February 22 on a variety of charges and his arrest became a priority for police yesterday following alleged firearm-related offences this week, police said.

The man was caught after boarding a plane to Napier, which was delayed until police could get to the airport.

Passengers on the flight were disembarked and the man was arrested about 8.15pm.

"The arrest was a combination of a focused team effort over a short period of time to locate a person known to be dangerous before he was about to leave Wellington," Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller said.

"I appreciate the cooperation and efficiency of the Wellington Airport staff and again thank the understanding of the passengers and crew."

The man would appear in Wellington District Court on Monday, Mr Miller said.
