Water is off in parts of Tawa following the burst of a major water pipe under the south end of Main Road late this morning.
The 300mm main burst near the intersection of Main Road and Oxford Street, a spokesman for Wellington City Council said.
The flow of water had damaged a large section of tarmac on Main Road, so motorists could expect disruptions while the pipe and the road are repaired.
Traffic was being diverted through nearby streets.
