Wellington home badly damaged by blaze

A Wellington home is severely damaged after a fire overnight.

Central Fire Communications shift manager Chris Dalton said the fire occurred in the suburb of Khandallah around 9.45pm last night.

The single-storey house was "well involved with fire on arrival," he said.

Six fire engines, three support vehicles and an aerial ladder appliance battled the blaze at the peak of the fire, he said.

One truck remained at the scene this morning on stand-by.

No one was injured in the fire, however initial reports suggested residents of the house were home when the fire occurred, Mr Dalton said.

They were being assisted by victim support.

The property was "un-liveable" following the blaze, which was believed to have started in the lounge of the house, he said.

While there were no reports that the fire was suspicious, fire investigators were at the scene this morning.
