Wellington student diagnosed with meningitis

A male student at Massey University campus in Wellington has been diagnosed with meningitis.

The student, from the College of Arts, was diagnosed on Sunday.

The news comes just over a week after Otago Polytechnic student Brittany Arthur died at Dunedin Hospital after contracting the disease.

A Wellington Hospital spokesman said the student was discharged yesterday.

Massey University communications director James Gardiner said the student's condition was "improving".

He said the university was notified yesterday.

Staff and students who were in close contact with the student were in the process of being contacted.

"Our role was to identify students and staff who were close to him in class."

His flatmates would also be contacted, Gardiner said.

"But as far as I know, no one else has presented the symptoms."
