Whangamata homicide investigation continues

Six days after an elderly man was killed in a small seaside town, police say they've narrowed down a list of people of interest.

Ivan Peter Kapluggin, 76, was found dead in Whangamata last week.

Emergency services were called to an Achilles Ave house at about 1.30am last Tuesday and police shortly after launched a homicide investigation.

This afternoon, Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Pitkethley said a scene examination was still happening at the property.

Mr Pitkethley said police wanted to talk with anybody who was around Achilles Ave, area either on foot or in a vehicle, between 11pm last Monday or 3am on Tuesday.

"These [people] may unknowingly hold information key to investigators working to establish who, or who wasn't, in the area at the time of Mr Kapluggin's death," Mr Pitkethley said.

Police asked people with information about the homicide to call Whangamata police station on 07 865 0300 or the independent Crimestoppers organisation on 0800 555 111.
