The mother of a baby found buried in the back yard of a house in the south Auckland suburb of Otahuhu has been charged with murder.
The newborn baby was found in a makeshift grave early last month.
Detective Inspector Dave Lynch said the child's 22-year-old mother initially appeared in Manukau District Court charged with assault, but would face a charge of murder and concealing the child's remains when she reappeared tomorrow.
A man, 29, also appeared in court last week charged with disposing of a body to conceal the birth.
Police earlier said that said the accused woman's parents may not have known she was pregnant.
The baby was thought to have died in late June.
