Woman critically injured in Helensville shooting

A woman was shot in Helensville overnight and police are investigating.

Police were called to Mill Rd just before 4am.

The 31-year-old victim is undergoing surgery after being taken to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition, police said.

Three people - two men and a woman - are helping police with inquiries.

Police are not seeking anyone else as part of their inquiries.

A scene examination is taking place and the public can expect to see a Police presence at the address today.

Neighbours reported hearing police imploring a person to put their gun down and give themselves up during the incident.

A local resident said the scene had been cordoned off and that a helicopter had been circling.

Neighbours had reported to him that police had been shouting at someone in the Mill Rd home to put their gun down and come out, he said.

The witness understood the person at the house was later arrested and scene examiners were still there.
