A woman has been killed in a crash near Kaiapoi in north Canterbury this morning.
The crash was reported to police by a passing motorist on South Eyre Rd at 8.20am.
Initial enquiries indicated that the woman lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the centre line and hit a tree on the other side of the road.
No other vehicles were involved.
The woman, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The road was dry and the weather was sunny.
The police serious crash unit was investigating.
