Woman fights off bedroom intruder

A woman had to fight off an intruder who was attempting to get into bed with her early yesterday, police say.

A man broke into her Baxter Place home in Rotorua about 6.45am.

The woman woke as he was getting into her bed and when she realised he was not her partner, she yelled at him and then punched him, police said.

He ran out of the house and she heard a vehicle start up.

The woman was left frightened but unharmed, police said.

The man was described as in his early 20s, with light coloured skin, of a medium build and about 1.7m tall.

He was wearing dark framed reading glasses, dark coloured tight fitting beanie, grey hoodie and blue jeans.

Police were also interested in a light coloured vehicle, possibly a late 90s Toyota Corolla described as having round lights at the front and dents in the back.

The vehicle was seen parked on Owhata Road from 6.15am and driving on Baxter Place before the incident, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Rotorua police on 07 348 0099 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
