Woman robbed in Tauranga

An elderly woman suffering from a medical condition was robbed by two teenage boys while walking down an alleyway in the Western Bay of Plenty yesterday, police say.

The 71-year-old woman was confronted by two boys, who appeared to be aged 13 to 15 years, while she was walking home about 2.45pm in an alleyway between Taupo Ave and Girven Rd, in Mt Maunganui, Detective Sergeant Trevor Brown said.

The teens were described as having dark coloured clothing and red bandannas covering their faces, Mr Brown said.

"After demanding money and producing a weapon the two ran off towards Taupo Avenue after robbing the victim of cash."
