Woman seriously hurt as quad bike rolls

A woman has received spine, head and chest injuries after a quad bike rolled on her.

The 62-year-old woman was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter after the incident at Upper Takaka this afternoon.

John Sneesby, St John ambulance team manager, said the Air One Nelson rescue helicopter was called to Uruwhenua Rd at 12.53pm.

“The bike went down a bank and flipped,” Mr Sneesby said. “The 62 year old woman had moderate to serious head and chest injuries.”

The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The woman has injuries to her head, chest and spine but is not likely to die.

A family member alerted emergency services of the accident. It is not known if the woman was by herself when the quad bike rolled.
