A woman survived after crashing her four-wheel-drive 100 metres down a bank on the Coromandel Peninsula after suffering a "momentary lapse in concentration".
The woman, in her 40s, drifted off the road causing the vehicle to roll around 2.50pm yesterday, the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter said.
"The lady had a momentary lapse in concentration and unfortunately drifted off the road and 100 metres down a bank, with the four-wheel drive she was in rolling over," Russell Clarke, intensive care flight paramedic, said.
"We transported her to hospital in a moderate condition -- so she is one lucky lady."
The rescue chopper was called by ambulance staff, who met the helicopter at Coromandel Air Field. The chopper transported the woman to Waikato Hospital.
The crash scene on Manaia Rd was discovered by a passer-by around 2pm, Tash Lawrence from the ambulance northern communications centre said.
There were no other occupants in the car at the time, and no other injuries reported, she said.
