Woman's death not suspicious

The death of a woman whose body washed up on Arkles Bay, north of Auckland, earlier this year was not suspicious, police said.

The body of Arkles Bay resident Katherine Bennett, 60, was discovered on the shoreline of on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula at about 6.45am on January 7.

Rodney police deployed significant resources into the investigation, but the death remained unexplained.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Batty said the conclusion was reached after "extensive" investigative and forensic inquiries.

"Police spoke to a wide sector of the community in the course of the investigations. Valuable information was provided by the public which we wish to acknowledge with gratitude," Batty said.

Details of how the death occurred would not be released as it was being referred to the coroner, he said.
