Two women have been arrested after two elderly people were assaulted and robbed in their Christchurch home yesterday.
A passer-by noticed something amiss at the Papanui property yesterday afternoon and called police, who apprehended the offenders a short distance away.
A 39-year-old woman was charged with aggravated robbery and two charges of aggravated assault, and a 38-year-old woman was charged with aggravated robbery.
The two victims were taken to hospital for a check-up and were shaken but not seriously injured.
"Such an attack on elderly, vulnerable members of our community will not be tolerated," Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cottam said.
''Everyone has a right to feel safe and be safe in their home and community.''
He praised the ''quick-thinking'' person who called the police.
