Worker killed in accident on fishing boat named

Police have named the 26-year-old who died in a workplace accident aboard a fishing boat off the coast of the South Island yesterday.

Steffan Antony Stewart, of New Plymouth,  died in the accident which happened about 4am while the boat San Granit was off the coast of Banks Peninsula. 

The San Granit is a $25 million ship that joined Sanford's Timaru-based fishing fleet in 2016.

Police continue to work with the Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) and the matter will be referred to the Coroner.
