The Queen's granddaughter Zara Phillips is to visit the University of Auckland to speak with researchers about spinal cord injury.

Ms Phillips, a championship-winning horse rider, will visit tomorrow morning as a guest of the CatWalk trust, a New Zealand organisation focused on fundraising to support research into spinal cord injuries.

She has been a patron of the trust since 2005 and will attend the organisation's 10-year anniversary party at SkyCity tomorrow night.

"It is both a privilege and a pleasure for me to serve as International Patron for The CatWalk Trust," Ms Phillips said in a quote on the trust's website.

"The cause of Spinal Cord Injury is one close to my heart ... CatWalk has set itself some ambitious goals - but knowing the dedication of its supporters, I share their confidence that a cure is not far away."

The royal will meet University of Auckland Medical School researchers at 9.30am at the Centre for Brain Research.

Several politicians are also attending, university spokeswoman Suzi Phillips said.

CatWalk chief executive Libby Young said Ms Phillips had come over once before when she was young for CatWalk's founding party.

Mrs Young said the royal's visit would be brief, as she did not like to be away from her young daughter for too long.
