Tourists queue for picture perfect view

The top of a mountain might seem an unusual place for a queue to form.

But, that is the case on Wanaka's Mount Roy.

After a three-hour climb, tourists are waiting for up to half an hour at the peak for the chance to pose for that one, special photo.

Swiss tourist Sarah Payer said she and a friend were in the queue this week.

''Yeah probably had to wait for half an hour to get it [the photo]. All the people were standing in a queue so everyone could take the pictures they wanted to.''

The track opened for the summer season two weeks ago, with a car park double the size of last year.

About 150 people are expected to make the climb each day over summer.

The best advice from tourists coming back from the peak seemed to be - make an early start.
