ETG funding for Canterbury

Earthquake-hit Canterbury will get another helping hand with $96,000 of Enhanced Taskforce Green (ETG) funding to clean-up affected areas.

ETG is a subsidy for projects that help a community recover from bad weather or natural disaster.

The Waimakariri District Council is the first to start a project, cleaning up the Waiuku beach reserve.

"The Waiuku beach reserve needs a lot of restoration work as the summer season approaches and families return to the beach," Minister Kate Wilkinson, speaking for the Social Development and Employment Minister Paula Bennett, said.

ETG funding will subsidise the wages of five staff and a supervisor for the Waiuku project.

Ms Wilkinson said local councils are working to identify other potential ETG projects around the region.
