Labour's education spokeswoman Nanaia Mahuta will be on parental leave from December 1.
While she is on leave Chris Hipkins will be Labour's acting education spokesman.
Ms Mahuta will resume her portfolio responsibilities when she returns to Parliament in the New Year.
