Mark Patterson, one of the most vocal opponents of the Shanghai Maling-Silver Fern Farms merger, was unsurprisingly announced as the Clutha-Southland candidate, with Mr Peters pointedly saying he expected Mr Patterson to be in Parliament after the election. Mr Patterson will need a high place on the list to achieve a place in Parliament.
Former Waitaki mayor Alex Familton will stand in Waitaki, current MP Ria Bond will contest Invercargill, Kerry Rushton will stand in Dunedin South and Warren Voight will stand in Dunedin North.
Mr Peters used immigration and superannuation as the main themes for his 45min address.
