Geraldine celebrates Ukefest

Geraldine's Ukefest had them tapping and singing up a storm over the last few days, as more than 300 people registered for a variety of workshops and concerts.
The festival draws ukulele fans from around New Zealand.

Big names this year included The Quiet American, the Survivor Ukulele Band, and the Ukuleloe People.

The festival brings the town to life, with ukes in cafes, open-mic events and workshops.

Wellington busker and teacher Shane McAlister had the audience tapping, singing and strumming during a workshop at the Geraldine High Schoool hall.

Organisers say the festival is for beginners and old hands and gets bigger every year.
