Ploughmen compete for Mid Canterbury ploughing glory

Some of New Zealand's greatest ploughmen converged on a harvested grass paddock near Wakanui last month, for the Mid Canterbury Vintage Machinery Club's annual ploughing match.

Champion ploughman Bob Mehrtens and stalwart John Slater competed alongside 19 others at the Begg family farm.

Committee president Colin Boon said as well as Mehrtens and Slater the competition attracted ploughing rookies, with one competitor only just buying his plough.
