Green Island landfill will end up scrapped

Rubbish collection and a new landfill site for the city are up for discussion this year, as the Dunedin city council embarks on a major review of its refuse services.
The Council has announced its looking at the feasibility of a new landfill site as the Green Island facility reaches the end of its life.

Our Bexley landfill in Christchurch used to be the equivalent eyesore to the Green Island landfill . Fortunately the Chch council decided, along with adjacent district councils, to replace Bexleys with a state-of-the-art, no seagulls, Kate Valley landfill near Amberley. Has anyone on the Dunedin council considered looking at creating a similar facility?
