Scientists concerned about potential for a big earthquake

On average the Alpine Fault ruptures in a massive earthquake every 300 years, and the last big one was in 1717.
 
Scientists say their research reveals around 30 magnitude 8 quakes have shaken the southern alps over the last 8000 years.
