CCTV captures Genoa bridge collapse

CCTV video has been released of the moment a bridge collapsed in the Italian city of Genoa collapsed, killing 43 people.

The footage was released by law enforcement agency Guardia di Finanza Genova.

The 50-year-old bridge, part of a toll motorway linking the port city with southern France, collapsed during torrential rain on August 14, sending dozens of vehicles crashing on to a riverbed, a railway and two warehouses 50 metres below.

The government has launched a lengthy bureaucratic and legal procedure to cancel the concessions held by Autostrade, a unit of infrastructure group Atlantia that manages some 3000 km of Italy's network.

The bridge was completed in 1967 and overhauled just two years ago.

A state funeral for some of the victims was held at the weekend.
