Elderly pedestrians die in Aus Xmas eve crash

An elderly couple have tragically died on Christmas eve after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in Townsville, Queensland.

The pedestrians, a man and a woman aged in their 70s, were crossing Ross River Road in Mysterton about 7.20pm on Monday when they were struck and died at the scene.

"Two seniors were crossing the road and a vehicle travelling outbound on Ross River Rd has struck them," Acting Inspector Steve Batterham told The Courier-Mail.

"The male driver is being treated for shock and has been taken to hospital."
