Former NSW priest faces 33 sex charges

A former NSW catholic boys school priest has been charged with 33 counts of sexually abusing students as police investigate further assault allegations at the exclusive college.

A former teacher from St Stanislaus' College at Bathurst, in central western NSW, has already been convicted of several charges, while two other teachers from the school are under investigation, The Daily Telegraph newspaper reports today.

The 65-year-old former priest, who now lives in Sydney, worked at the school in the 1980s and was arrested in May this year. He was charged with 33 offences relating to sexual assault and gross acts of indecency against children aged 10 to 18 years.

He has already faced court and is due to return to Bathurst Local Court on September 15.

One victim, now aged 35, said boys at the school were subjected to horrendous sexual abuse and were sometimes forced to abuse each other.

"They got a group between eight and 12 of us together and they'd just start chanting and I would wake up during these sessions and see what was going on," the victim, a former college boarder, told The Telegraph.

"It was like an orgy." NSW Police have been contacted about the investigation, but as yet have not confirmed their involvement.

College principal John Edwards told The Telegraph any allegation of sexual misconduct was of "grave concern" and said the school had been working with police.

Attempts by AAP to contact the college for comment were not successful.
