Funeral honours slain Australian comedian

Family and friends have arrived with flowers to farewell budding Melbourne comedian Eurydice Dixon, who was raped and murdered in a crime that sparked national outrage.

Thursday's private funeral comes after the June 12 killing when the 22-year-old made her way home from a gig.

Outside the Brunswick funeral parlour, mourners arrived dressed in black, consoling each other.

The funeral pamphlet shows images of a young, smiling girl and a woman on stage in a polka-dot dress.

Her great uncle Eric Dixon, sister Polly Cotton, a drama teacher Tracy Carroll and five friends are expected to speak during the service.

Pictures of You by The Cure and Johnny Cash's We'll Meet Again are expected on the service playlist.

Ms Dixon's body was found on a Carlton soccer field after she made a late-night, solo walk home following a performance at Melbourne's Highlander Bar.

Her death prompted comment from state and territory leaders including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Victoria's Women's Affairs Minister Natalie Hutchins said Australia is enduring a "gendered violence crisis", with 30 women already murdered across the nation in 2018.

Thousands of people across Australia have attended vigils in honour of Ms Dixon.

Jaymes Todd, 19 of Broadmeadows, is charged with Ms Dixon's rape and murder.
