Police in stand-off with man wanted over body in barrel

A man wanted for questioning following the discovery of a teenage girl's remains shoved inside a barrel remains holed up in a Sunshine Coast unit in a stand-off with dozens of police.

Zlatko Sikorsky (34) has been wanted since Wednesday over the disappearance of 16-year-old Brisbane girl Larissa Beilby.

Up to 40 police officers, including Specialist Emergency Response Team personnel, are involved in the operation.

Sikorsky has refused to leave the unit in the Alexandra Headland complex after almost 20 hours of negotiations.

He is believed to be alone inside the Juan Street complex, but it is unclear if he is armed.

His connection to the property is also unknown, but the surrounding area has been in lockdown since 3.25pm on Friday.

Police have told residents to remain indoors and the public to avoid the area bounded by Mary, Mayfield and William streets as well as Alex Parade.

"Again, we're just asking people in Juan and William streets to reduce their pedestrian traffic if they can," Superintendent Darryl Johnson said on Saturday morning.

"We appreciate it's a weekend and people need to go to work and go about their business. We'll facilitate that most definitely where we can ... there will be some cases where we can't do that."

Sikorsky fled a Logan property on Wednesday when police attended as part of their investigation into Ms Beilby's disappearance.

She was last seen by family members at a home in Brisbane's northern suburbs on June 15, and was reported missing by her father, Peter Beilby, on Tuesday.

Sikorsky abandoned the car at a gated residential estate in nearby Stapylton, where police then discovered what are believed to be the remains of Ms Beilby stuffed into a small barrel in the ute's tray.

It has been confirmed the pair were known to each other.

Police have had a warrant to arrest Sikorsky since March 15, after he breached his parole conditions.
