Pregnant woman doused in acid

A pregnant teenager was doused in pool cleaning acid in a fight outside an Adelaide Centrelink office today.

Police say a man allegedly threw the liquid over the 19-year-old, who is six months pregnant, and her 28-year-old partner.

"About 1.50pm (CDT) a dispute occurred between three people known to each other at Oaklands park," a police spokesman said.

"During the incident, a man threw pool acid over the pregnant woman who was involved in the dispute.

"She was taken to Flinders Medical Centre with injuries to her right arm, caused by the acid.

"The woman's partner, a 28-year-old man, was also taken to hospital as a precaution."

Police say the alleged offender is known to all parties.

Earlier, ambulance officers who treated the woman said they feared she had either inhaled or swallowed some of the acid.

The teenager is in a satisfactory condition and likely to be released today, the hospital said.
