100 Years ... German Reconnaissance

Under your column "100 Years" published in the O.D.T. on 20.06.2018, you recount a story of a German armed raider the "Wolf" travelling down the east coast of New Zealand and passing to the south of Stewart Island.

This actually occurred and with a bit of scratching around on Papers Past I found a similiar news item published in the Southern Cross newspaper on the 29th June 1918.

A Bluff oyster vessel witnessed a strange occurrence with an unidentified vessel to the west of Stewart Island at about 9.30pm on the 17th March 1917.
