I am about to go to the UK for a couple of weeks.
As there is a severe flu outbreak there I decided to get a vaccination before I went only to be told there are none available until March.
I contacted the Immunisation Advisory Centre which informed me that all NZ vaccines expired on December 31 and none would be available until March. Their suggestion was I get one when I get over there.
However, as it takes nearly two weeks for the vaccine to become fully effective, this means I have little or no protection during my visit.
Given that this strain of flu is life -threatening and can easily be brought back, not having supplies available seems to be a major oversight.
