Hawea Karate Club annual camp

From 5pm on Friday 30th November to 12am on December 1st the Hawea Karate Club held an intensive training camp.

That's 19 hours, only five of those were reserved for sleeping. 38 people attended plus four instructors; Sensei Lachy, Sensei Mike, Sensei Tarn, and Sensei Steve. Ages ranged from six to seventy.

The training consisted of Basics, Kata, Board and Brick breaking, a 5:30am run, fighting, strength, and stamina, then finished off with a session involving the lake.

Quotes:

“We all enjoyed smashing the slats of wood and the adults trying to break bricks.”-Nova Gillam

“I found the camp great and was very tired and had a sleep as soon as I got home.”-Jasmine Grose

“I had a great time on the camp so it's hard to pick one favourite bit. But, I really enjoyed the early morning run and kata, it was such a good way to start the day even after a 5.15 drum waking us up. It was hard to keep going at 100% through all the sessions being so mentally and physically tired. But it was so awesome to end with that session in the lake and the fun of that.”-Liz Brezlin

“We loved it! Our highlights were training and kicking in the water and punching and breaking the wood!”-Marley and Kahlo Walker

“I enjoyed this camp, even though in some areas, like strength and stamina, it was quite challenging. I liked training with the junior class too because it was cool to see the different ways that everyone fights.”-Lauren Rimmer

“The camp managed to bridge the gap in age groups really well. There was a good balance of technical training, hard work, discipline, and fun.

It seemed to me that everybody was pushed just enough but never too much.

Classic karate moment was dawn meditation on the beach.”-Tim Sharratt

A special thank you to; Liz Brezlin for helping with food, Luggate sawmill for supplying the boards, Joel Deen for helping out and cooking food, the scouts for letting us use the scout den and all three senseis for making it happen.
