Lost Heritage Oamaru Victorian Precinct

It is with dismay I hear that Home Gallery Fine Art in the upper floors of the Loan and Mercantile (the whisky building), will be lost to the Historic Precinct.

The restored space, world class in appearance, with perfect light and ambiance for fine art display, is to become storage space for thousands of imported jackets.

The Gallery is a cultural asset, contributing to the preserving and revitalising of the Victorian Precinct. We should not allow this beautiful space to be lost to such a travesty as commercial storage. We should fight for the aim of the Legacy Building Trust to be honoured, ie. preservation AND revitalisation.

The Precinct cannot continue to survive as a living and breathing cultural site with such retrograde, dollar-focused decisions.
