Morepork/Ruru heard in Belleknowes

A Morepork or Ruru, New Zealand's native owl heard calling in the suburb of Belleknowes at 10.30 pm Monday.

It was the first time I have heard it's distinctive call in Dunedin since I was a child, more than sixty years ago. Did anyone else hear it?

Yes, we heard it too, for more than five minutes, but fewer than 10, at that time in that suburb. I went for a walk and figured out, via triangulation, which tree it was in. We will be listening carefully after dark over the next few days. Note sure if it was a morepork or a little owl.

I have also heard a Ruru-like call in the evenings over the past few weeks, around the upper Stone Street area.
