Te Anau District Autumn Flower Show celebrates 50 years on 15/16 March at the Fiordland Community Events Centre – Luxmore Drive on Friday 16 March 2pm-6pm and Saturday 17 March 9am-4pm.

Flower Show Committee organizer Judy Matthews said “Some of the folk who helped way back when it was held at the Te Anau Primary School have plenty of ideas, for our 50th anniversary”.

“For old times sake help the Te Anau Flower Show Committee commemorate this wonderful milestone in our community.”

Betty Dodds was the organiser in 1968 along with Te Anau Primary School Headmaster Jack Richmond and held at the school. Current organiser Judy Matthews took over the reins in 2011.

Betty said “50 years has gone really quickly”.

“In the earlier days, Jack Richmond who was the Headmaster of Bluff School had organised school flower shows and Betty came from the Gore District which also had shows. We both decided it was time for the Te Anau Primary School to have their own show”.

It's our year with the Flower Show Committee proud to be hosting for the first time South Island National Chrysanthemum Show on 5/6 May 2018.

There are a number of different variety of blooms exhibitors can enter which are available in the schedule from Mitre 10, Te Anau Four Square, Te Anau Library, Southland District Council Office Fiordland Nurseries.

Judy said “Hunt out your latest brew of jams, chutneys, sauce, pickle, or preserved fruit. Pick some of those beautiful blooms in your garden all helps the Committee to celebrate 50 years.

“Your support would be much appreciated”.
