Clutha and West Taieri remain unbeaten after another thrilling weekend of Southern Region rugby, setting up a mouth-watering clash at Outram in a fortnight’s time when the competition heavyweights go head to head.

Clutha were far too strong for Toko at the Balclutha Showgrounds, claiming a convincing 64-33 victory in a high-scoring encounter.

The home side showed their attacking class throughout, playing with confidence and freedom while moving the ball effectively to the edges.

Clutha built pressure through multiple phases in the middle of the park before exploiting space out wide, piling on points with an impressive attacking display. They held a 26-14 advantage at halftime and rarely looked troubled.

Toko showed glimpses of quality but were ultimately undone by poor execution at key moments.

Their lineout struggled to function consistently, while costly unforced errors in their own territory repeatedly handed possession back to Clutha.

The home side continued to dominate in the second spell with their ability to turn opportunities into length-of-the-field tries particularly impressive.

A slight lapse in intensity late in the game allowed Toko to narrow the margin with a couple of late tries, but the result was never in doubt. Clutha crossed for 10 tries, wingers Tyler Bichan and Junior Samuelu both grabbing doubles.

West Taieri retained both the Holmes Milk Can and Speight’s Jug with a hard-fought 37-31 victory over Clutha Valley in Outram.

After a sluggish opening 10 minutes, the home side settled into their work and began to control territory and possession.

First five Callum Smeaton steered the side superbly, directing play into the right areas and finishing with two tries alongside 12 points from the tee.

West Taieri took a 22-10 lead into halftime after building pressure through composed and patient phases.

The second half featured West Taieri raising the intensity through their set piece, placing Clutha Valley under sustained pressure.

The home side controlled the tempo well, played the percentages intelligently, and maintained the upper hand throughout the contest.

Clutha Valley fought hard and added late points to close the gap, but West Taieri always appeared in control and deserved the victory.

Lawrence capped off Club Day in style with a 34-24 Miners Cup victory over Crescent at Simpson Park.

The home side established momentum early and controlled much of the contest through the work of their forward pack.

Lawrence dominated the collision area and breakdown, consistently winning the physical battle and preventing Crescent from building sustained pressure.

Holding a 19-12 lead at halftime, Lawrence lifted again in the second spell to secure a deserved victory and complete a successful day for the club.

Heriot produced a dominant display at Death Valley, overwhelming Clinton 62-5 in a one-sided encounter.

Heriot’s forward pack laid the platform with a commanding performance through the middle of the field, consistently generating front-foot ball and controlling the set piece.

Their backline capitalised on that dominance with first five Logan Cornish directing play effectively and exposing any defensive lapses from the visitors.
