After successfully participating in the Walk 'n' Wheel campaign, Remarkables Primary School also won a bike which was presented to the school during the Monday morning assembly.

Queenstown Lakes District Council school travel planner Kirsty Barr was there to present the bike, which principal Debbie Dickson rode into the assembly.

The campaign ran from late February to early March and involved about 2000 Queenstown Lakes school children walking or cycling to school and learning to do so safely through biking safety programmes.

Ms Barr said during the week the school got more than 50% of pupils "walking or wheeling", up on the usual 20%.

The school planned to raffle off the bike as a fundraiser for the school.
