New members on board

A Christchurch resident and two Tarras farmers have joined the Tarras Community Trust Board following three resignations.

John Rodwell, of Christchurch, who owns land at Tarras, and local farmers Jan Gibson and David Emmerson were formally welcomed on to the board at the trust's first annual meeting this week.

Peter Wheen resigned in March and fellow members Alastair Rutherford and Barbara Annan resigned at the meeting.

They join existing board members Peter Jolly (chairman), Mark Davidson, Jack Davis, Beau Trevathan, Angus Chapman-Cohen, and Bruce Jolly.

A registered charity, the trust was established in August last year and effectively replaced the now-dissolved Tarras Community Association.

The trust's primary focus was to drive a proposed Tarras irrigation scheme to fruition, and remain the community's representative body after the project was completed.

Mr Morrison said the trust's application for an Otago Regional Council water permit was being processed, and the trust was working through a preferred funding model.

He hoped a decision on the water permit application would be issued by the end of the year or early next year.

If approved, the scheme would be subject to funding.
