A 21-year-old Cromwell man arrested over a $200,000 drugs haul has been remanded on bail.
The arrest came yesterday after police intercepted four parcels of drugs, believed to be MDMA, destined for unoccupied holiday homes in the Clyde area, Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis said.
The parcels contained about half a kilo of the drug, which had an estimated value of more than $200,000, Det Snr Sgt Inglis said.
The man appeared in Queenstown District Court this morning and was remanded on bail to a Cromwell address, and will reappear in the Alexandra District Court on December 6.
The packages, each of which contained about 125 grams of the drug, were thought to have been imported from Poland.
The drugs were undergoing testing to establish exactly what they are; however, police believed they were MDMA (Ecstasy), Det Snr Sgt Inglis said.
Judge Mark Callaghan made an order for interim name suppression until November 10 so the defendant could inform his family of his arrest.
