Roxburgh Area School senior pupils Brooke Johnston (17), of Dumbarton, and Alex Darling, (18), of Ettrick, marked the beginning of the Teviot Valley’s tree-day Tartan Time celebration yesterday, by wearing plaid and dishing out Mackintosh’s toffees to fellow pupils.

Money raised from the tartan mufti event will go to St John in Roxburgh.

Teviot Valley residents have also decorated their mailboxes, 103 The Store is making traditional shortbread and a Scottish banquet will be held.

Two screenings of Edie, a movie set in the Scottish Highlands, are planned and the celebrations will finish with a community ‘‘Kilt Canter’’ race tomorrow.
